Adana Intensive Programme

AdanaIP syllabus and implementation

It is expected that 12 students and 14 staff from the partner universities and 10 students and 4 staff from Cukurova University  will participate in it.

Duration of the IP is 2 weeks (12 days plus 2 travel days)

Languages to be used: English . The students will also improve their language skills enabling them to communicate with their European counterparts in areas covered by the topics of the programme.

The teaching materials to be produced will include both classical teaching materials (course-books, handouts) and multimedia teaching materials (CD-Roms, websites, etc.) The volume and structure of the teaching materials will correspond roughly to three one – courses with 3 hours of lectures and 1 hour of seminars per week. After the end of this 3 – year IP the teaching materials produced in its course will be used at all the partner institutions both in full-time courses and in ODL. All materials will be produced in English, will contain the latest developments in the field and will be structured in a way that will enable students at different levels (BSc, MSc, Ph.D.) to find the information corresponding with their level of understanding the presented topic. At the end of the course proceedings of the IP will be published  papers by the teaching staff. The planned volume is about 150 pages; the language to be used is English.  The number, volume, structure and language of these theses cannot be planned in advance, as they will depend on students´ interests.

The IP itself is evaluated as 3 ECTS credits, but each university may decide to give it more weight by assigning extra work to the students, for example, in the form of a special assignment or a research paper (University may recognize up to 6 credits). According to the structure of the studies in each country, the credits will be counted separately as a course module or included as a work for a specific course. A certificate of participation, signed by the programme coordinators, will be awarded to the participants in the IP. The main working language (the general plenary sessions and lecturing) of the IP itself normally will be in English, although everything possible will be done to facilitate full participation of those not fluent in that language. So far as possible all the languages spoken at the partner universities will be used in some way in the IP activities. All participating higher education institutions are in the process of following the path to “Bologna Process”.  Therefore they plan to incorporate the new courses into their international teaching activities as obligatory courses, where appropriate as electives. The details of recognition will be negotiated and agreed upon according to every partners course structure. A basic premise of the IP and CLIOH network in general is that each language constitutes among other things and historical document of fundamental importance.

The subjects to be taught all will be directly concerned with the study of culture, linguistic, religion, politics and gender ; and to be taught all of these subjects differences between them. The approach of the IP will be a combination of regional and thematic analysis. The IP will open with one session devoted to the theoretical issues involved with the current religion/history/politics concepts and categories, followed by the discussion of these questions in relation to the national/regional understandings and historiographies. Further the themes to be dealt here will be developed chronologically. The IP will come into effect by five Thematic areas, concentrating on certain specific themes, as follows:

Thema 1 .  State systems and Religion,
Thema  2 .  Cultural and Linguistic Identities
Thema 3 .  Gender and  Politics
Thema 4 .  Intercultural Dialogues in Europe
Thema 5 .  Globalisation and Multiculturalism

The general teaching format will be: 3 hours of lecturing and 1 hour of staff guided discussion in the morning sessions plus 3-4 hours of small group workshops in the afternoons. Teaching materials will be a reader, prepared by professors before the IP.
